Inspiration for 2024

We have been dreaming of embarking on a journey to Peru for years, and finally, this winter, our dream became a reality. Our trip wasn't just any ordinary vacation - it was a spiritual and culinary adventure that would touch our souls and awaken our palates in ways we never imagined.

Our shared passion for learning about different cultures and exploring the world through food drew us to Peru, a country rich in history and culinary traditions. From the moment we set foot in Lima, (the oceanside capitol metropolis) to the Andes Mountains and the Sacred Valley; we knew they were in for an unforgettable experience.

Time to study grains, maize, potatoes and a wild array of tropical fruits from various elevations helped us understand the importance of agriculture in the region. We marveled at the intricacies of the Incan civilization as we explored ancient ruins and learned about the sacred rituals that were once practiced there.

As we ventured through the sacred valley, the breathtaking landscapes, stunning traditions, vibrant textiles and a daily existence living close to nature captured our hearts. We immersed ourselves in the local culture, meeting with shamans and learning about chakra studies, connecting with the spiritual energy of the land.

One of the highlights of our journey was visiting the salt mines in the sacred valley, where we witnessed the ancient salt extraction process that has been passed down through generations. The sight of the gleaming salt ponds against the backdrop of the mountains left us in awe of the ingenuity of the Peruvian people. We did return with pounds of sacred salts to utilize in our cookery this season.

But perhaps the most memorable experience for we had was dining at the Mater restaurant group, owned by Virgilio Martinez and his wife Pia Leon, which has been recognized as the worlds TOP restaurant last year, by ‘50 Best ranking’. The culinary creations we savored reflected the incredible diversity of South America, showcasing the abundance of flavors and ingredients unique to the region.

From Lima to Cusco to Maras, we indulged in an array of dishes that celebrated Peru's culinary heritage, hosted by international and indigenous guides, each bite a symphony of flavors that told a story of tradition and innovation. Our palates forever changed, our minds were opened to the boundless possibilities that exist in the world of gastronomy.

As we bid farewell to Peru, we knew that our journey had been more than just a vacation - it had been a transformative experience like no other, that had deepened their appreciation for the beauty of the world and the richness of its cultures.
